Many Service Providers Offer HDTV Programming - Find Yours Today
As high definition television continues to grow in popularity, more HDTV programming becomes available. There are now hundreds of stations being broadcast with digital signals. Because of the number of television viewers who still do not have high definition digital television sets or HDTV Receivers, most of those stations are still being broadcast in analog signals as well.
Purchasing HDTV equipment is the first step in obtaining the incredible sound and picture quality of HDTV programming. But simply having a television or receiver (sometimes called a set-top box) attached to your television doesn't ensure that you are receiving only HDTV
programming. Remember that the majority of television programming is not yet available in digital format. You may have all the necessary equipment - including an HDTV antenna - but you will still likely be watching many programs in analog format.
So how do you know what HDTV programming is available in your area? One way is to check with your cable or satellite service provider. Most of the major service providers have a listing of the HDTV programming offered through their stations. Dish Network, for example, touts high definition broadcasts of a variety of programs, ranging from the educational to movie channels. Movies, after all, are one of the major reasons high definition television has become an issue. Through HDTV broadcasts to television, viewers will have a viewing experience that rivals that of a theater. DirecTV also offers high definition programming, as do many of the other major companies.
So is it only programming from those major satellite and cable providers that is now available for HDTV? Of course not! The cost of transition from analog to cable signals is expensive, but television stations are beginning to take that step. According to a recent newscast from Channel 16 WNEP in South Williamsburg, Penn., some HDTV programming is now available to viewers in that area. The only thing needed to access those channels that are broadcast for free is the equipment that makes HDTV viewing possible on your home television set. Remember that local programming (your local channels that can be received with an antenna) is often part of your cable or satellite television providers' packages. If those stations are broadcasting in high definition, all you need to do is have the necessary equipment to begin enjoying the quality of HDTV programming.
Finding the Best HDTV
programming in your area should be an easy task. Start with your cable or satellite service providers for a listing. If they don't have one available, check Internet sources for lists of HDTV programming.
